Tech 2020 seeking Interim Executive Director

Tech 2020Oak Ridge-based Tech 2020 is searching for an Interim Executive Director to lead a reassessment of its operations, structure and business model ahead of hiring a permanent top executive.

“We need the right person with proven change management and process leadership skills to consult with our key stakeholders and refine a sustainable business model for the future,” said Teri Brahams, Chair-elect of Tech 2020, who is leading the search process.

John Morris, President and Chief Executive Officer of the organization, resigned at the end of September to start a new business named Clearpath Ventures. The Interim Executive Director position is a full-time consultancy for an expected six months.

Brahams said the Search Committee has defined an aggressive timeline to fill the position. Applications will be accepted through October 25, and she hopes the position will be filled within a few weeks.

Tech 2020 was founded in 1995. Its mission is to strengthen the region’s innovation ecosystem by focusing on technology-driven commercialization, developing and growing high-tech companies, providing access to capital, and leveraging the unique technology assets of the region.

Brahams described the ideal candidate as possessing a background in business/entrepreneurship; a proven track record in leading and managing enterprises through various stages of organizational development; and demonstrated skills in financial management and budgeting, fund development and grant-writing, and personnel management.

“The ideal candidate would also have experience working in partnership with a regional Board of Directors,” Brahams said.

Those interested in applying should send their resume and a letter answering three questions to tbrahams@pstcc.edu. She has asked that the words “Tech2020 Search” be typed in the subject line of the email.

The questions are:

  • What are your reasons for expressing interest in this position?
  • In your opinion, what are the greatest strengths and weaknesses in the region’s innovation ecosystem?
  • What has been your personal experience leading an organization engaged in an innovation ecosystem?
