Supporting entrepreneurship can help retain good employees

The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Cyberbacker writes in an article in Forbes that recent data shows that 40 percent of U.S. workers have a side hustle, and the number increases to 59 percent for Gen Zers and more than 61 percent for Millennials.

“If your goal is to lose your best employees – those with a strong work ethic, intense passion, creativity, versatility, flexibility and decisiveness – then you don’t need to do anything to help them,” Craig Goodliffe writes. “Eventually, they will go on their way without contributing nearly what they could have to your business. But if your goal is to have a better business and, ultimately, a better world to live in, create a culture that encourages entrepreneurs.”

He offers these suggestions:

  • Make encouraging entrepreneurs part of your purpose;
  • Provide training that serves entrepreneurs; and
  • Never stop supporting entrepreneurs.
