South Carolina celebrates rapid growth of life science sector
The Palmetto State celebrated “South Carolina Life Sciences Week” last week.
In his proclamation, Governor Henry McMaster noted that “since 2017, the life sciences sector has become South Carolina’s fastest-growing industry, with employment growing at double the rate of South Carolina’s economy as a whole.”
The state’s growth in the sector is impressive, doubling the number of life science firms and increasing employment numbers by 40 percent since 2017, according to University of South Carolina study. Greenville County boasts the largest number of life science companies in a state where the 800 firms and 43,000 professionals involved in the sector generate a $12 billion economic impact.
