Shift Thermal looking for forward thinking partner

The ideal candidate would be a company that uses chillers for onsite cooling and is interested in reducing its electric power consumption during peak periods.

Shift Thermal, an Oak Ridge-based start-up that is an alum of the “Innovation Crossroads” program, is looking for a forward thinking partner willing to invest some time and resources in exchange for being on the cutting edge of cooling, working with the company on a field demonstration this summer.

Co-Founder Mitch Ishmael told us that the company in the inaugural cohort of the program just sent out the first commercial version of its thermal battery for cooling. “It clearly shows that we can deliver a product, but this customer had a very particular set of needs. We want to show with this demonstration that there is a repeatable and scalable business case.”

The ideal partner would be a company that uses chillers for onsite cooling and is interested in reducing its electric power consumption during peak periods.

“Our system can provide up to 50 tons of cooling and has 200 ton-hours of storage,” Ishmael said.

Under the arrangement, Shift Thermal would work with the partner to install the commercial device for use this summer to manage peak demands for cooling. There’s a win-win. The partner reduces its energy usage during peak periods and Shift Thermal gets all-important data to further advance its product in the next generation of the device.

In addition, the partner also will have unique insights into the technology and help drive further innovations. “We are highly motivated to make sure that our partner has a great experience this summer,” Ishmael says.

Those interested in learning more about the opportunity can contact Ishmael at mitch@shiftthermal.com.
