RTP added to list of FCC’s “Innovation Zones”
Thanks to action by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Research Triangle Park is one of two areas newly designated as “Innovation Zones.” The other is Boston, and the two join New York City and Salt Lake City that were previously designated in 2019/
What does that mean? According to the FCC, the designations will “help spur the development and integration of 5G network technologies and open radio access networks, or Open RAN.”
Tom Snyder of RIoT, the “Regional Internet of Things” users group based in Raleigh, hailed the move as one that will boost drone and other emerging technologies. RIoT is working closely with North Carolina State University and the Wireless Research Center on a variety of programs.
