Knoxville ranks #7 on U-Haul’s “Top 25 U.S. Growth Cities”

Many news outlets have reported on companies and wealthy individuals fleeing high tax, business unfriendly states for warmer climates, and our local region is clearly benefitting.

According to this recent report from U-Haul, the rental company focused on moving, Knoxville ranks #7 in the nation on its “Top 25 U.S. Growth Cities” listing. It is one of two Tennessee cities making the list with 13 of the top 25 cities located in the Southeast. Also, Tennessee is the nation’s top destination.

  • The Johnson City/Kingsport region comes in at #12.
  • Nearby Asheville, NC is #14.
  • Huntsville, AL ranks #15.

How does U-Haul develop the rankings? Growth cities are calculated by the net gain of one-way U-Haul trucks entering a city versus leaving that city in a calendar year. Migration trends data is compiled from more than two million one-way U-Haul truck customer transactions that occur annually.

How is that trend impacting East Tennessee? Look for a two-part series in teknovation.biz later this week that spotlights just how those relocations are affecting this region.
