Region well-represented among finalists for “R&D 100 Awards”

R&DR&D Magazine has released the list of finalists for its upcoming 53rd annual “R&D 100 Awards” celebration which honors the 100 most innovative technologies and services of the past year. The listings were good news for our region, particularly Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

In addition, it was announced that this year’s awards event has been expanded to include a two-day “R&D 100 Technology Conference,” and one of the two keynote speakers for that event is ORNL Director Thom Mason.

As far as the finalists for the prestigious awards, ORNL was named as primary developer on 13 finalist technologies and co- or supporting developer on six. One of the six was a technology where the University of Tennessee’s Knoxville campus was the lead developer.

The Y-12 National Security Complex was lead developer on three finalists, and Oak Ridge-based Nanomechanics, Inc. was the developer of one of the final technologies.
