Possip first TN company with Black Founder to raise more than $1 million in venture capital

Shani Dowell, Founder of Possip, announced before the holidays that her start-up had raised $1,020,000 in venture funding, making Dowell the first black female founder in the State of Tennessee to raise $1 million in capital. The start-up from Nashville has developed a platform that helps parents stay connected to their child’s teachers and school administrators. It is currently being used in more than 100 schools in 16 states.

Possip captured the top prize and $50,000 by winning the “LaunchTN Pitch Competition” as well as the $10,000 “Crowd Favorite Award” which during the late August “36|86 Entrepreneurship Festival” in its hometown of Nashville. And, just for good measure, Launch Tennessee’s Impact Fund is an investor.
