Two very different pictures emerge in terms of Q3 venture funding

Two very different pictures have emerged from different sources in terms of venture funding during the third quarter of 2020. One relates to overall funding, the other to companies founded by females as well as those that are seeking early stage investment capital.

  • Crunchbase News reports that Q3 “has held up with $76.4 billion in venture funding worldwide, a number that is up one percent quarter over quarter and nine percent year over year. If you look solely at seed funding, the numbers are much different – at $2.6 billion, this category was down 32 percent year over year and down 11 percent quarter over quarter.
  • PitchBook News reports that venture funding for female founders has hit its lowest quarterly total in three years. The $434 million in invested in firms led by females in Q3 is the lowest figure since the second quarter of 2017. The third quarter total also amounts to a 48 percent drop in funding from Q2, when female founders received $841 million across 132 deals. Click here for more information.
