Pass It Down, Mixtroz selected as national “Startup of the Year” finalists

Two Tennessee-based start-ups are among the first 50 finalists announced last week for the title of the 6th Annual “Startup of the Year” champion and, ironically, both have ties to Chattanooga.

Pass It Down is Chris Cummings’ start-up that is actually based in Chattanooga, while Mixtroz from Franklin participated a couple of years ago in CO.LAB’s “GIGTANK” as did Cummings. They, along with the other 50 to be announced soon, were selected from more than 500 qualifying, emerging founders representing 38 countries and numerous industries that range from artificial intelligence and e-commerce to healthtech and more.

The 100 will be on display during the Innovate Celebrate in Boston from October 15 – 17. Mixtroz is a networking app that makes events more valuable for organizers and attendee; Pass It Down is a storytelling platform to capture memories.

Both Tennessee start-ups have received solid recognition in the past few months. Pass It Down was selected for the 2018 AtlantBridge Community cohort (see our recent teknovation.biz article here), while Mixtroz won the $100,000 investment when Steve Case’s “Rise of the Rest Road Tour” stopped in Birmingham in May (see our post here).
