Nominate a leader for the Tom Ballard Advanced Energy Leadership Award

By Shannon Smith, Teknovation Assistant Editor, PYA

I asked Tom Ballard how many awards he has named after him, and he promised me it’s “only two.”

The first is the “Ballard Innovation Award” from PYA, which awards cash and services to budding start-ups. That application will open up in a few months. Ballard’s second namesake award is from the Tennessee Advanced Energy Business Council and is now accepting nominations.

“The annual Thomas B. Ballard Advanced Energy Leadership Award honors exemplary leadership and success in championing, connecting, and strengthening Tennessee’s advanced energy economy,” the TAEBC said in a release. “These pillars are personally exemplified by the tireless work of Tom Ballard, an unparalleled leader, educator, mentor, and advocate of Tennessee’s advanced energy economy.”

Tom was the first president of the TAEBC when it was first formed in 2014, and served on the board of directors through 2019, which is the first year the award was given.

You’re invited to nominate someone like Tom who shows “exemplary leadership and success in championing, connecting, and strengthening Tennessee’s advanced energy economy.”

The deadline to submit nominations is October 21, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Submit a nomination here.

The award winner will be announced at TAEBC’s annual Opportunities in Energy event on November 16.
