Amazon facility opens in Alcoa

Knox News reports the new Amazon distribution center in Alcoa is finally open.

According to Knox News, “The Alcoa facility has been operating on some scale since August but is now up to speed. It is the 100th robotics facility for Amazon, and its name is TYS1 to reflect the code for McGhee Tyson Airport nearby. The massive building is where orders are received, stored, packed, and shipped for the region. It’s located at 4101 S. Singleton Station Road.”

Zoo Knoxville president to chair national zoo organization

Lisa New, President and Chief Executive Officer of Zoo Knoxville,  was sworn in as the 99th Board Chair for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) at the National Conference in Columbus, Ohio in September.

“As the incoming Board Chair for AZA it is important for me to have a space where we can all come together to collaborate,” New said on Zoo Knoxville’s website. “My intention is to provide this space to keep you updated on priorities and allow you to share feedback throughout my year as Board Chair. I am incredibly honored to be in this position and look forward to working alongside all of you.”

AZA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of zoos and aquariums in the areas of conservation, education, science, and recreation. AZA represents more than 235 facilities in the United States and overseas, which collectively draw more than 200 million visitors every year. AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums meet the highest standards in animal care and welfare and provide a fun, safe, and educational family experience. In addition, they dedicate millions of dollars annually to support scientific research, conservation, and education programs.

Hosted on The Maker City’s Instagram each week leading up to Christmas in November and December, The Holiday Monday Marketplace is designed to promote shopping locally and help drive awareness to your products and services.
