News & Notes | UT at Chattanooga praises collaboration with EPB
IACMI has announced the launch of 'Make It In America', a national outreach campaign to raise awareness of careers in advanced manufacturing.
From Chattanooga:
On the same day that EPB announced a new collaboration with Vanderbilt University, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) credited the public utility with being a valuable partner in establishing the UTC Quantum Center as a national leader in Quantum Information Science and Engineering (QISE).
“With the investments the University has made in quantum research and development, we are pleased to have been invited into other quantum industry consortia in the region, including those focused on national security, advanced manufacturing, and the defense industry,” the message read. “In 2022, UTC started establishing a program of excellence in Quantum Information Science and Engineering. The focus was on innovation in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, mobility, transportation, and resilient energy supply.
UTC was the first university connected to EPB’s quantum network in 2023, enabling research in quantum sensing and communication. We will continue to identify projects that give us the opportunity to work with EPB and other educational and business partners in the region.
The University has committed more than $9.6 million in quantum research and infrastructure. This includes a $3 million institutional commitment and $6.6 million in additional funding to support research projects, laboratory buildouts and high-performance computing.
We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with EPB as we bring more economic and workforce development to the Tennessee Valley Corridor and maintain our status as the higher education leader in quantum science in the region.
Totem, creators of the viral Totem Compass, the offline, wearable GPS tracker built for live events, has announced the launch of its community equity crowdfunding campaign on WeFunder. With $1.12 million already committed, Totem is targeting $2 million to unlock a recurring revenue model, expand its global footprint, strengthen distribution channels, and grow its technical team.
