News & Notes | TN Valley Corridor will celebrate where it all began late next month

The organization's National Summit returns to Oak Ridge where the event was first held 30 years ago.

In celebration of its 30th Anniversary, the Tennessee Valley Corridor (TVC) will convene this year’s National Summit where it all began three decades earlier.

The event will be held in Oak Ridge on May 29-30 at the New Hope Center, with a special invitation-only anniversary dinner hosted by the City of Oak Ridge. Over two days, Summit will feature an array of speakers, panels, and exhibits showcasing the TVC’s national leadership in energy, science, space, national security, workforce, and more.

From Knoxville:

The Knoxville Chamber is recruiting a Director of Innovation who will be responsible for overseeing the chamber’s regional innovation efforts, including the areas of entrepreneurship, access to capital, technology transfer and commercialization, patent exposure, and innovation infrastructure.

According to the announcement, the role designs opportunities that will lead to a more robust innovation ecosystem, which will eventually increase the City of Knoxville and Knox County’s average annual pay.  The Director of Innovation will work regularly with key partners, including city, county, and state government representatives, state and regional entrepreneurial organizations, chamber investors, private businesses, academic institutions, and community stakeholders.

Applications are being accepted for Start-up Studio, a new 12-week summer program designed to help launch entrepreneurs launch their business idea. It’s exclusively for current University of Tennessee, Knoxville, students and alumni who have graduated within 12 months of applying to Startup Studio.

Haseeb Qureshi (“HQ”), Director of Start-up Studio, is a past start-up founder, full-stack coder, and start-up attorney. As an Anderson Center Teaching Fellow and lecturer in the Department of Management and Dntrepreneurship at the Haslam College of Business, he has taught entrepreneurship to hundreds of students.

The Tennessee Advanced Energy Business Council has announced the date and location for the organization’s annual “Opportunities in Energy Event.” It will be held on November 19 at the Crowne Plaza in Downtown Knoxville. Early bird registration is coming soon.
