New fund created to invest in Wisconsin university start-ups

Roughly five years after the State of Wisconsin created the Badger Fund of Funds with $25 million and a goal of investing in start-up companies, it has committed an unspecified amount to a new initiative.

The Winnow Fund, a seed stage venture capital fund, has raised $6 million, partly from the Badger Fund of Funds, to invest in Wisconsin’s university and college entrepreneurs. Richelle Martin, who will lead the new effort, formerly headed the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Office of Industrial Partnerships.
