NC has two BBB Challenge semi-finalists, EDA makes a whistle-stop visit

Only one of nine proposals submitted by Tennessee organizations under the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s (EDA) $1 billion “Build Back Better Regional Challenge” was selected as one of the 60 semi-finalists. As previously reported in this teknovation.biz article, that submission came from a coalition led by the University of Memphis.

Our neighbors to the east have two semi-finalists with one led by the North Carolina Biotechnology Center (NCBiotech) and the other by the Piedmont Triad Regional Council. Last week, EDA officials were in North Carolina for a roundtable discussion with local and state government representatives to discuss the state’s participation in the competitive funding process, and WRAL TechWire shares the discussion and the pitch in this article written by a member of NCBiotech team.

According to the article, North Carolina was one of 12 sites “randomly chosen” as part of EDA’s whistle-stop tour to get a “view on the ground,” but the roundtable was described as not being part of the merit review process.
