Nanomechanics announces second “R & D 100 Award” as co-developer

Nanomechanics Inc.-tekno(EDITOR’S NOTE: The following was provided by Nanomechanics, Inc., and is an update to a previous article listing one “R & D 100 Award.”)

Nanomechanics, Inc. is proud to announce that the editors of R&D Magazine have recognized the company in two of the coveted R&D 100 Awards.

As previously announced, R&D Magazine selected the InSEM High Temperature Mechanical Properties Microprobe as a winner of the coveted R&D 100 Award. Nanomechanics was also recognized as co-developer of Agilent Technologies’ Express Test option.

“We’re very excited that our InSEM HT system has been included in the ‘Oscars of Innovation,’” said Chairman and CEO John Swindeman.  “We are proud to been recognized as co-developers with Agilent in the development of Express Test.  In addition, with the six awards that Oak Ridge National Labs received, Nanomechanics is very gratified that eight of the 100 Awards came from Tennessee’s Innovation Valley.”

The InSEM High Temperature (HT) Mechanical Properties Microprobe is a tool for
characterizing the mechanical properties of surfaces or structures.  The device attaches to a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and allows sub-nanometer measurement of displacements, and sub-nanoNewton application of force to compress, tense, bend, crush, or indent specimens.  The inclusion of isothermal heating of the probe tip and sample extends this in-situ characterization to temperatures in excess of 400°C.  Video synchronization between the SEM image and the InSEM data channels allows observed phenomenon to be quantified.

Agilent Technologies’ Express Test “is a revolutionary system option designed for exclusive use with the popular Agilent Nano Indenter G200… ideal for diverse applications involving metals, glasses, ceramics, structural polymers, thin films, and low-k materials.”  http://www.agilent.com/about/newsroom/presrel/2013/24jul-em13095.html
