UT, Pellissippi State listed as part of Michigan manufacturing initiative
North Carolina won the first one, and it appears that Michigan- and Illinois-led consortia will win the nation’s next two $140 million manufacturing innovation programs.
That said, it appears from media stories on Sunday that at least two Tennessee entities are also involved in the Michigan consortium. They are the University of Tennessee and Pellissippi State Community College. They join 48 other organizations in the lightweight and modern metals manufacturing initiative, according to a report in The Detroit News.
As far as the Illinois initiative that is focused on digital manufacturing and design technologies, a story in the Chicago Sun-Times does not list any Tennessee connections.
These two new institutes closely follow an announcement of the inaugural program led by North Carolina State University. Here’s a link to that announcement.
