Manufacturing breakfast held at Pellissippi State
More than 30 people attended Wednesday’s “Regional Manufacturers’ Breakfast” at Pellissippi State Community College.
The event was sponsored by B&W Y-12 and hosted by Pellissippi State, Roane State Community College and the University of Tennessee’s Center for Industrial Services.
Tim Spires, President of the Chattanooga Regional Manufacturers Association, kicked-off his presentation by citing manufacturing statistics for the 16-county East Tennessee Development District. He said that 17 percent of all jobs in the counties are in manufacturing. The actual number is 69,131 jobs in 1,649 companies.
When Spires asked the attendees their top concern, it was a qualified, prepared workforce.
Mike Arms, one of the event organizers, said the next meeting to explore the feasibility of a establishing a regional manufacturers association will be held in about 90 days.
