Two local companies win GATE awards for international trade

Tennessee TNCompanies from Knoxville and Oak Ridge captured two of three top awards given at the concluding luncheon during the 63rd annual “Governor’s Conference on Economic and Community Development” held last week in Nashville.

ExpoQuip Inc., a Knoxville-based global distributor of heavy machinery replacement parts and components, and Nanomechanics Inc., an Oak Ridge company that manufacturers equipment for understanding the mechanical performance of materials, won the “Governor’s Award for Trade Excellence.”

More commonly know as the GATE award, the recognition was given to the companies in the small business category. During 2015, exports accounted for 65 percent of Nanomechanics’ sales, while ExpoQuip was recognized for selling to 35 countries.
