TechMah Medical was founded in Knoxville in 2014 and acquired in late 2018 by LimaCorporate (see news release) in what was described then as a “milestone-based acquisition.” In Friday’s news release providing the latest updates, the two entities announced these developments:

  • TechMah Medical received 510-K clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on December 28 for its proprietary “Smart SPACE Humeral 3D Positioner” for use in total shoulder arthroplasty.
  • Less than two months later – February 3 to be exact, it received 510-K clearance for its “Smart SPACE Cubit Guidance” that is also for total shoulder arthroplasty.
  • In between those two actions, LimaCorporate acquired the CE Mark for the Apple Macintosh OS version of the Smart SPACE 3D Virtual Planner .

As described in the latest announcement, Smart SPACE is LimaCorporate’s digital platform and features novel orthopedic technology and a rich pipeline of landscape-changing applications. Smart SPACE is a new environment designed to further enable the surgeon and enhance the predictability of surgical outcomes providing peace-of-mind to the physician.

TechMah Medical was co-founded by Mohamed Mahfouz
a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK); Michael Johnson, the company’s Senior Vice President; and Emam ElHak Abdel Fatah, TechMah Medical’s Vice President of Research and Development and a UTK Research Assistant Professor.

Based in Italy, LimaCorporate is a global medical device company providing reconstructive orthopaedic solutions to surgeons who face the challenges of improving the quality of life of their patients.
