‘Liftoff’ pitch competition is postponed

The event was would have offered $200,000 in investment for five start-ups in or willing to relocate to Blount County.

An event scheduled for early November that was billed as “Tennessee’s largest pitch competition” has been postponed.

As noted in this late August story in teknovation.biz, the competition named “Liftoff” was being planned by the Sky City Entrepreneur Center in Maryville for November 8 at The Clayton Center for the Arts at Maryville College. It was designed to build on the non-profit’s highly successful “Launchpad Pitch Event” in February that drew a crowd of more than 100 people.

“Liftoff” would offer five start-ups a chance to compete for up to $200,000 in investment, thanks to four local individuals who pledged $50,000 each.

An announcement posted on the event’s website and confirmed in a conversation with Shannon Bryant, Sky City’s Community Manager, on October 9, read as follows: “Liftoff is postponed due to unforseen circumstances. Applications are closed for now. More info soon!” No further information was available.
