Latest Brookings report is a dose of reality in terms of the impact of AI on many jobs

Think your position is not vulnerable to artificial intelligence (AI)? You might want to read on!

The latest intriguing report from the Brookings Institute employs a novel technique developed by Stanford University Ph.D. candidate to establish job exposure levels to AI by analyzing the overlap between AI-related patents and job descriptions.

According to this announcement from Brookings, the approach used machine learning, specifically natural language processing, to quantify the overlap between text from patents filed for AI technologies and job descriptions from the U.S. Department of Labor’s O*NET database. This process generated a measure of every occupation’s varying levels of “exposure to AI applications in the near future.”

The kicker is the headline about the report: “What jobs are affected by AI? Better-paid, better-educated workers face the most exposure.”
