Knoxville places just outside the top 10 as a summer getaway destination

That's according to WalletHub that compared 100 metro areas across 41 key indicators.

Planning a summer getaway? If so, you might not have to travel very far to find the 11th best place in the country.

That’s right; it is good old Knoxville, according to a study by WalletHub, the personal financial website.

To help travelers plan the perfect summer getaway, WalletHub compared 100 metro areas across 41 key indicators of budget- and fun-friendliness. The data set ranges from the cost of the cheapest flight to the number of attractions to the average price of a two-person meal. Knoxville’s overall score was #11, with specific categories ranked as follows:

  1. 31st – Travel Costs & Hassles;
  2. 8th – Local Costs;
  3. 51st – Number of Attractions;
  4. 21st – Cost of Cheapest Flight;
  5. 11th – Duration of Cheapest Flight;
  6. 8th – Cost of Three-Star Hotel;
  7. 36th – Weather;
  8. 39th – Activities; and
  9. 21st – Safety.

Nashville came in at #36, and Chattanooga was ranked #53.

What’s the top spot? If you guessed Orlando and the surrounding areas, you would be correct.
