It’s time to sign up for the NSF Fall I-Corps at UT, Knoxville
The slightly more than three-week long program starts October 24 and ends on November 14.
“Do you have a business idea? Are you passionate about entrepreneurship? Have you made scientific discoveries that could change lives?”
If you answered yes to any of these questions, there’s a program coming up next month that you ought to consider if you have an affiliation with the University of Tennessee. It’s the Fall 2024 edition of the National Science Foundation’s Innovation Corps (I-Corps) Regional Program. During a three-plus week period starting October 24 and ending November 14, researchers, post-docs, and others will learn about the all-important customer discovery process to assess the market potential of their inventions.
The opening and closing sessions (October 24 and November 14) will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. EST in the Institute for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing on the UT Research Park at Cherokee Farm. In the middle on November 4, there will be a virtual check-in to see how participants are doing.
The NSF I-Corps program offers an exciting opportunity to unlock the commercial potential of an individual’s research or idea by employing a customer-centric approach. In this regional cohort, participants will dive deep into understanding customer archetypes, conducting a minimum of 20 customer interviews, and assessing whether your technology has real market potential. Faculty members and students from across the university will engage in dynamic, instructor-led workshops that focus on customer discovery, value proposition, and developing a Business Model Canvas (BMC) tailored to their technology.
The finale will involve sharing the results of the customer interviews, lessons learned, potential pivots, and next steps.
