Grow Bioplastics wins “Spring Vol Court Pitch Competition”

Vol Court 2Grow Bioplastics won last week’s “Spring Vol Court Pitch Competition” coordinated by the Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ACEI) at the University of Tennessee.

The company, scheduled to present at the upcoming Rice Business Plan Competition, won $1,500 in the competition that featured 15 presenters, the largest in “Vol Court” history. It is focused on improving food sustainability by offering farmers and gardeners renewable, biodegradable plant containers and mulch films that eliminate oil based plastics from our agricultural system.

Second place and $1,000 went to Kevin White who has pitched his GameDay Weekenders start-up at a number of area competitions. His focus is on affordable and enjoyable weekend trips for students to sporting events.

Third place and $500 went to Mooch, a mobile app that allows individuals to generate some revenue by sharing little used items.

“The turnout this semester has been incredible,” ACEI Operations Director Tom Graves said. “We have had 60 to 70 attendees every night and new faces every session.”

“Vol Court” sponsors include Cirrus Path, Launch Tennessee, PYA, Morehous Legal Group and the UT Research Foundation.
