Forbes ranks Tampa as nation’s top tech ecosystem, cites leadership of one individual
What a difference a well-recognized and committed leader can make in a local tech-based entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Forbes magazine has dubbed Tampa as the top emerging technology city in the country, beating out long-time rivals including New York City, Miami and San Francisco. In releasing its rankings, Forbes spotlighted the involvement of Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik’s in the local tech ecosystem.
His fingerprints are on many efforts, from Water Street Tampa, a 55-acre development spearheaded by Vinik’s Strategic Property Partners and Cascade Investment LLC, the investment fund of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, to Vinik’s backing of innovation hub Embarc Collective, which now counts more than 100 start-ups in its roster.
