SUMMARY:Fusion Safety and Regulation Course
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nJoin us for the Fusion Safety and Regulation Course\, immediately before the East Tennessee Economic Council’s Nuclear Opportunities Workshop in Knoxville\, Tennessee. \nThis course brings together the world’s leading experts shaping the future of fusion energy around the world. As private fusion companies move toward pilot plant development\, conversations around fusion device safety and the regulatory environment for an emerging commercial fusion industry are taking center stage. Participants will learn about key safety considerations for fusion devices\, the regulations that apply to planned fusion facilities\, and how other industries develop safety cultures. The course will also cover important safety topics that apply to lab-scale fusion research today\, such as tritium handling and management of cryogenic systems. \nThere is an optional extension day to the course\, on Monday\, August 3\, comprising tours of several laboratories at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). These tours are free of charge\, will require some administrative/security details to be completed in advance (for non-U.S. nationals\, the deadline to submit these details will likely be Monday July\, 6). ORNL tour places are dependent upon available spaces\, prevailing conditions\, etc – entirely at the discretion of ORNL. More details soon! \nWhy attend?\n\nHear directly from global experts in fusion safety and regulation\nExpand your fusion network across industry\, academia\, and policy\nUnderstand the regulatory environment for commercial fusion\nLearn about key safety considerations as fusion companies move toward pilot plant development\n\nTopics include:\n\nCase studies in safety and licensing\, in multiple facilities across Europe and North America\nLatest developments in regulations\, in several european countries\nTritium safety and management\nActivated material safety and activated waste management\nSafety practices at lab-scale fusion facilities and major accelerator facilities\n\n\nRegister\nOUTLINE Agenda\n\nTo contribute towards the running costs there is a registration fee of $1\,000 for the three-day course.  The registration fee includes participation in the three-day course\, breakfast\, lunch\, and all refreshment breaks\, during the three days\, as well as a welcome reception after the first day.
