Epicenter targets city, county pension funds to help reach $100 million goal
Congratulations to our friends on the Mississippi River. Epicenter, the Memphis entrepreneur center, has raised $40 million in funding toward a goal of as much as $100 million to invest in local start-ups. With that much raised mostly from wealthy individuals and corporations, The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal reports that Epicenter is asking the City of Memphis and Shelby County to invest a portion of their pension monies in the fund. The article also says a donor has tentatively agreed to underwrite any losses from the pension funds.
