Entrepreneurship and stewardship inextricably linked

NACCETalk about a powerful symbol and message.

During Friday’s luncheon at the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE) event at Pellissippi State Community College, Becky Corbin, the organization’s President and Chief Executive Officer, shared a special coin with us that says it all.

One side of the coin is about entrepreneurship with this message – “Create, organize and manage an enterprise with considerable initiative and risk. The message on the other side is about stewardship – “Intentional and responsible planning and management of entrusted resources.”

In other words, how do you succeed as an entrepreneur? You must be a good steward of resources but you also must practice good stewardship, giving back to your community.

Corbin said the coin was inspired by the thoughts and work of Sam Thevanayagam, a successful New Jersey-based Entrepreneur. He was a keynote speaker at NACCE’s annual conference last November, and you can click here to view a YouTube video of that presentation.

Here are the two sides of the coin.
