COVID-19 impacts application deadline and presentation dates for annual “Boyd Venture Challenge”

Like so many activities, plans for the “Boyd Venture Challenge” for University of Tennessee, Knoxville students have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an email earlier this week, the Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ACEI) in the Haslam College of Business announced three modifications to the previously announced plans:

  • Applications will now be accepted through April 20. The original deadline was April 6.
  • The originally announced presentation date of April 24 is being postponed. The new date, as yet undetermined, will be in the summer. At that time, students will make their pitches remotely.
  • Graduate and undergraduate students who are enrolled at UT at the time of the application deadline are still eligible to pitch if they graduate prior to the presentation date.

The “Boyd Venture Challenge” is a seed fund grant competition conducted annually during the Spring Semester. Companies are awarded up to $30,000 in start-up capital. Funds may be awarded to one company or split among several companies.
