Commerce Secretary announces awards to two East TN organizations

U.S. Department of CommerceTwo local organizations were among 36 winners of more than $14.5 million in grants announced yesterday by U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker.

Oak Ridge-based Tech 2020 and the East Tennessee Development District (ETDD) were the local recipients.

According to the Department of Commerce announcement, Tech 2020 received $250,000 “to expand and improve capacity to provide entrepreneurial support through its Center for Entrepreneurial Growth program,” while was awarded ETDD $35,000 “for the Campbell County TN implementation plan to improve broadband access.”

The two East Tennessee organizations and the other 34 are part of the Obama Administration’s “Partnership for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization (POWER) Initiative.”

Kentucky appears to have won the lottery, winning or sharing in 10 awards, one of which also includes Tennessee.
