CBI’s Maker Space now open one Saturday a month in response to customer needs

Responding to customer needs is nothing new for Holly Hanson, Director of the Cumberland Business Incubator (CBI) and also Director of Roane State Community College’s Cumberland County Higher Education Center in Crossville

We featured the entrepreneurially-minded Hanson in this May 2017 article in teknovation.biz that spotlighted her long-time work with start-ups and the ways in which she is responding to the needs of people in the rural area.

One of CBI’s assets is its Maker Space that features a vinyl cutter, woodworking shop, laser cutter, 3D printers, and equipment for embroidery and fabric arts. Due to staffing requirements, the facility was not open on the weekend which could be a time for some users who could not get there during normal weekday hours.

“Based on member requests and a willing volunteer, the Maker Space is now open on the second Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon,” Hanson says. That willing volunteer is Jon Young who provides evening open hours, some of our evening classes, and now the Saturday open hours.

“We host the Verizon Innovative Learning STEM Camp on the second Saturday each month during the school year, so it was a natural to open the Maker Space on that same Saturday,” Hanson added.

If you are a maker, the next Saturday open house will be February 8. For more information and to register, click here.
