Boutique event for women coming to Knoxville in December

“The Permission Slip Conference,” set for December 4, aims to inspire and empower women to bring their dreams to life.

Erika Biddix, Founder of Knoxville co-working community Aught, is working with an award-winning TEDx speaker and coach based in Minnesota to bring a conference focused on women to Knoxville this December.

Described as a boutique event organized by female entrepreneurs for female entrepreneurs, “The Permission Slip Conference” aims to inspire and empower women to bring their dreams to life. It is scheduled for December 4 at The Mill & Mine as a collaboration between Biddix and Sally Zimney, Founder of BeMoved.

Based in St. Paul, MN, Zimney helps speakers, leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers become more compelling and authentic speakers. She explains on her LinkedIn page that “BeMoved’s goal isn’t to make you ‘perfect,’ but to help you connect and engage with more confidence and clarity so you can move your audience.”

As noted in several articles published on teknovation.biz, Biddix announced plans to open her first location of what was then known as Girl Boss Offices in late October 2019. She was an event planner that needed a place other than her home to conduct business. Biddix expanded from her initial Ebenezer Road site in West Knoxville to second location downtown in March 2021. That also coincided with the rebranding of the company as Aught.

“We believe that the world needs what only you can give,” Biddix and Zimney explain in a news release announcing the conference. “At Permission Slip, we say ‘yes, you can’ and also ‘yes, you SHOULD. We’re not just giving you permission; we’re giving you the tools to write your own permission slip.”

The organizers note that women frequently find themselves juggling multiple responsibilities and questioning if they have what it takes to turn their dreams into reality. “This conference is about giving ourselves permission to dream bigger, be bold, and take up space in the world,” they say.

Throughout the day, attendees will have the opportunity to listen to and learn from a lineup of inspiring speakers, including Diana Wei Fang, Judi Holler, Jade Simmons, Booth Andrews, LaShonda Brown, Biddix, and Zimney. The agenda will include how-to sessions with an opening keynote from Holler and a closing keynote by Simmons.

In addition, attendees will also have the chance to connect with like-minded women and build a supportive community.

Tickets are now on sale.
