BIP Capital issues latest report on start-ups in the Southeast

BIP Capital has just issued its fourth annual The State of StartupsSM in the Southeast 2020 eBook that analyzes investments and other related items between January 1, 2015 and June 30, 2020.

Here are some key points about Tennessee:

  • Healthcare IT, media and Software-as-a-Service are the three largest industry sectors.
  • During the four and one-half year period, $2.5 billion was invested in Tennessee start-ups in 947 deals. Healthcare IT topped the list with 169 deals involving $566 million. A close second was media with 121 deals totaling $508 million.
  • On the venture capital front, Innova Memphis made 72 investments, more than three times the runner-up – Jumpstart Foundry.
  • On the angel front, the Nashville Capital Network led that category with 13 deals followed the Angel Capital Group, now known as The Sheltowee Angel Network with 10.
