Noting that 94 percent of the job growth nationally recently has occurred in self-employed or independent contracting, the Appalachian Regional Commission has provided funding to launch a program in West Virginia named Benefit U.
The effort, similar to the human resources department of a larger company, provides these individuals with services like paycheck guidance, income tax assistance programs, health insurance navigators, emergency savings and long-term savings, one-on-one training options, and financial education and retirement planning tools.
