Appalachian Regional Commission bringing its annual conference to Chattanooga

Under the theme of "Advancing Appalachia," the event will take place September 4 and 5.

With Tennessee Governor Bill Lee serving as the States’ Co-Chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), it fell to him to host the group’s annual conference.

The event, scheduled for September 4 and 5 in Chattanooga, will highlight how the 13 states and 423 counties that comprise the ARC are working to advance Appalachia by building businesses and workforces, investing in infrastructure and tourism, and growing local leadership capacity.

Registration opens in June. In the meantime, ARC is inviting individuals and organizations to submit their ideas for innovative, engaging sessions by April 30 at this link. The federal-state partnership is asking for ideas that address questions such as:

  • How is your organization or community advancing the Appalachian Region?
  • What are the economic development issues impacting your community or the region?
  • What skills or knowledge would help you better serve your community?
  • Who are Appalachia’s economic innovators?
  • How are those innovators strengthening and transforming Appalachia?
