Innovate Huntsville to start with hackathon, end with a pitch competition

Innovate HuntsvilleIt looks like early May will be a good time to celebrate innovation and entrepreneurship in North Alabama.

A nearly week-long event, dubbed Innovate Huntsville, kicks-off May 2 with a hackathon, continues with a two-day “Entrepreneurial Summit” starting May 3, and concludes May 7 with Rocket Hatch’s second annual “Will This Fly?” event.

It’s a full calendar of activities that are focused on spotlighting Huntsville entrepreneurial ecosystem and the region’s initiatives in areas like energy and geospatial technologies.

Innovate Huntsville will shine a light on the resources available and inspire future entrepreneurs to establish their business in Huntsville” said Larry Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of BizTech and President of PROJECTXYZ.

Two Huntsville organizations – BizTech and the Women’s Business Center of North Alabama – are  co-hosting the Summit. Registration information is available here.

For Antonio Montoya, Founder of Rocket Hatch, the week of activities is a great prelude to the second annual pitch competition for entrepreneurs.

“Our inaugural ‘Will This Fly?’ had a profound impact in our start-up community,” he said in a recent announcement. “Program alumni went on to win other pitch competitions such as Alabama Launchpad and to participate in regional accelerator programs such as Jumpstart Foundry and JusticeXL in Tennessee and received follow-up funding.”

Applications for this year’s event are now being accepted from innovators and entrepreneurs interested in presenting their start-up ideas at the May 7 finale and its audience of investors, mentors, and potential partners. Applications can be found at www.willthisfly.org and are due April 16.
