Annual listing of “Top 100” utility patents issued

The Intellectual Property Owners Association and the National Academy of Inventors are out with the annual list of the top universities in the world based on issued patents in 2020.

Which university is #1 in the latest edition of the “Top 100 Worldwide Universities Granted U.S. Utility Patents 2020”? Not surprising, it’s the University of California System with 597 followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with 383. Others in the top five are Stanford University (#3 at 229), University of Texas (#4 at 207), and Johns Hopkins University (#5 at 185).

Among Southeastern Conference institutions, the University of Florida is #11 with 140 issued utility patents followed by Vanderbilt University (tied for #35 at 68), University of South Carolina (tied for #63 with 45), Louisiana State University (tied for #77 with 38), and University of Kentucky (tied for #96 with 29).
