Alan Icenhour to succeed Jeff Smith as ORNL’s Deputy Lab Director

Alan Icenhour, a 30-year veteran of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), will succeed Jeff Smith as Deputy Laboratory Director for Operations when the latter retires at the end of April.

Currently Associate Laboratory Director for the new Isotope Science and Engineering Directorate, Icenhour previously held the same leadership position for the Nuclear Science and Engineering Directorate.

“Alan brings to this critical position a diverse record of accomplishment and a deep commitment to the Lab’s success,” said Dr. Thomas Zacharia, ORNL Director. “His steady rise through a series of leadership roles gives him invaluable perspective for ensuring operational excellence across the ORNL enterprise.”

Smith was part of the original leadership team when UT-Battelle LLC won the contract to manage ORNL and took over on April 1, 2000.
