Alabama Power Foundation sponsors inaugural “Blazer Hatchery and Hackathon” at UAB
The curtain came down last night on the inaugural “Blazer Hatchery and Hackathon” at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) where student teams competed for $5,000, $3,000 or $2,000.
Sponsored by the Alabama Power Foundation, it’s a two-month intensive experience serving students from all disciplines at UAB who are not yet entrepreneurs, but who have strong entrepreneurial aspirations.
The program started with 90 students in September. After three weeks, they were divided into five teams and asked to solve a major challenge identified by Alabama Power: How could they harness innovations in transportation and energy to provide access and options to underserved citizens that will provide real improvements in their lives and have a positive impact on the local community?
