Alabama NewsCenter spotlights “Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator”

The “Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator,” headquartered in Birmingham, is in its third year with “Demo Day” set for December 6. That’s about 18 months ahead of the “Techstars Industries of the Future Accelerator” in Knoxville which is now recruiting for its second cohort with applications due by January 4.

In a recent article posted on the Alabama NewsCenter website, Accelerator Managing Director Nate Schmidt was quoted as saying, “Our first two classes were amazing. We brought in 20 companies from all over the world and some companies here from the state of Alabama. Those companies have had a ton of success. We’ve seen them grow. We’ve seen them make hires. We’ve seen them raise a lot of money – over $150 million collectively as a group, which is a really big number, something we’re very proud of.”

He continued, “We’ve seen companies come to Alabama, stay in Alabama, buy property in Alabama. In fact, some of the teams from this year’s class are living with founders from last year’s class who bought a house together here in Forest Park. I’m really optimistic that we’re getting better as we go and this third class is going to be really something special.”

The “Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator” is supported by Alabama Power, Economic Development Partnership of Alabama (EDPA), Alabama Department of CommerceAltecPowerSouth, University of AlabamaSouthern Research and Hardware Park.
