The World Cup of startups is coming to Johnson City
This landmark event further solidifies East Tennessee's reputation as a premier hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.
For the first time in history, Northeast Tennessee has been selected to host a regional qualifier for the Startup World Cup, the world’s largest startup pitch competition.
On October 12, six startups will take the stage at the East Tennessee State University Brinkley Center to pitch their business ideas. The qualifier doubles as the opening night for the Startup Mountain Summit, the largest startup conference in the Tri-Cities.
The winning startup will represent Tennessee at the Startup World Cup finals in Silicon Valley, California, later this year to compete for a $1 million investment.

“The Startup World Cup is one of the most recognized startup competitions in the world, and hosting a qualifier in Johnson City is a huge opportunity for founders in our region,” said David Nelson, executive director of FoundersForge. “This showcases the growth and power our region has as a rapidly emerging startup hub in Tennessee. This puts our region on the global startup map, and having it as the opening night of the Startup Mountain Summit makes it even more special for us.”
