Town of Cary, NC participates in latest RIoT accelerator to improve use of technology
Have you ever heard of a local government applying to be a member of a start-up accelerator? The answer is probably “no,” and we had not either until we came across this article about Cary, NC.
Located in the technology rich Research Triangle area of the Tar Heel State, the town made history this summer for entering the RIoT Accelerator Program, not as an early stage company looking to grow, but instead as a town looking to improve its community through the innovative use of technology.
Nicole Raimundo, the town’s Chief Information Officer, said Cary initially became interested in participating in accelerators to change the mindset of the town’s staff to think in terms of product development. The first project is the construction of a low-power, wide-area network blanketing the entire town and allowing Cary to put sensors on the network and capture data wirelessly.
