DOE announces second part of its “Energy Program for Innovation Clusters” initiative
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced a solicitation for the follow-on round of funding for its “Energy Program for Innovation Clusters” (EPIC).
Following the awarding of $50,000 to 20 initiatives including the “Spark Innovation Center” at the University of Tennessee Research Park (see this recent teknovation.biz article for more details), DOE’s Office of Technology Transitions has up to $4 million in funding available for the new solicitation.
In its announcement, DOE said that the federal agency “plans to fund organizations that propose and implement regional engagement plans that encourage ecosystems for testing, validation, and demonstration of technologies to help them scale and enhance U.S. energy manufacturing competitiveness. For purposes of the EPIC FOA (funding opportunity announcement), ‘innovation accelerating organizations’ include incubators, accelerators, co-working start-up communities, or other models that accomplish similar goals.”
