ARC announces four-session virtual summit starting August 19

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has announced that its annual summit is going virtual with a four-week seminar series starting later this month.

With an overall theme of “Economic Innovation + Ingenuity During COVID – An Appalachian Perspective,” the series is being offered for free, thanks to support from the State of Ohio. As such, the content has a strong Buckeye State flavor.

Each session begins at 11 a.m. EDT. Dates and topics are:

  • August 26: “Appalachia’s Dual Pandemics: Substance Abuse and COVID 19” featuring Ray Barishansky, Deputy Secretary of Health Preparedness and Community Protection in Pennsylvania; Julie Bolen, Executive Director of Ross County Community Action Commission in Ohio; and Jennifer Gregory, Executive Director of Southern Tier East Regional Planning Development Board in New York.
  • September 2: “Highways to Cyberways: Innovations in Infrastructure” featuring Cheryl DeBerry, Natural Resources Business Specialist in Garrett County, MD; Duane Miller, Executive Director of LENOWISCO Planning District Commission in Virginia; and Patrick Smith, Executive Director of DriveOhio.
