Governor proposes rural broadband initiative to serve rural areas
Rural economic development just got a big boost with an announcement yesterday by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam, assuming the General Assembly goes along with his proposal. The Tennessee Broadband Accessibility Act, along with the Governor’s proposed budget, is designed to increase broadband access to Tennessee’s unserved citizens. The state currently ranks 29th in the U.S. for broadband access, with 34 percent of rural Tennessee residents lacking access at recognized minimum standards. Read more here.
