“TVC National Summit” set for May 27 in Johnson City
The “Tennessee Valley Corridor National Summit” (TVC) kick-offs a two-day run Wednesday, May 27, at the D.P. Culp University Center at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in Johnson City.

Between the opening lunch featuring host Congressman Phil Roe and ETSU President Brian Noland and the concluding session celebrating the TVC’s 20th anniversary, attendees will hear from a variety of speakers. Topics include:
Session I: Federal Missions in Oak Ridge and Huntsville – An Update Thom Mason, Director of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and Teresa Vanhooser, Deputy Director of the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, will provide updates on their all-important facilities in the region. Their presentations will be followed by a roundtable discussion moderated by Darrell Graddy, Senior Vice President of Consolidated Nuclear Security that will include panelists from a variety of Oak Ridge and Huntsville organizations.
Session II: Education Fuels Economic Growth Randy Boyd, Tennessee Commissioner of Economic and Community Development and one of the state’s most passionate advocates for education, will discuss the importance of the region’s education resources in providing a foundation for economic growth. He will then lead a discussion with higher education and private sector leaders focused on what businesses need in the workforce and how educational institutions are preparing tomorrow’s workers to meet those challenges.
Session III: Workforce in Advanced Manufacturing Stephanie Hill, President of Information Systems and Global Solutions-Civil for Lockheed Martin, will provide the keynote presentation, followed by a roundtable discussion led by Janice Gilliam, President of Northeast State Community College. Her panel will include higher education leaders, major government contractors, and business executives who are focused on advanced manufacturing and other topics critical to the future of manufacturers in the region.
Session IV: Growing the Tennessee Valley Economy The final session before lunch features two key regional leaders from Northeast Tennessee –Randy Wykoff, Dean of ETSU’s College of Public Health, and Alan Levine, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mountain States Health Alliance.
The “TVC National Summit” concludes after a luncheon featuring Alex Fischer, CEO of the Columbus Partnership, who was actively involved in planning the first Summit 20 years ago, and a panel discussion spotlighting the highlights over the TVC’s history.
