DOE launches Small Business Vouchers Pilot program

DOE-teknoThe U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) has issued an invitation to small businesses in the clean energy sector to apply for assistance from the agency’s national laboratories through the department’s new Small Business Vouchers Pilot program.

DOE Assistant David Danielson announced the call during this week’s “EERE Industry Day” held at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). He leads the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy vertical for DOE.

A total of $20 million has been allocated for the new initiative. Overall, DOE expects to award vouchers in the amount of $50,000 to $300,000 that winning companies can exchange for national lab technical assistance or to initiate collaborative research projects. The assistance will focus on a specific technical challenge identified by the small business in one of these areas: advanced manufacturing, buildings, vehicles, wind, water power, bioenergy, fuel cells, geothermal and solar.

To be eligible to apply, companies must be U.S.-based and -owned with no more than 500 full-time employees worldwide. A total of three cycles of competitions will be offered to interested small businesses in 2015 and 2016.

The opportunity involves multiple labs. Jennifer Palmer is the point of contact for ORNL. She can be reached at sbvpilot@ornl.gov. Businesses can apply at http://www.SBV.org.
