Venture funding for AI companies increased 62 percent in 2018, hitting $9.3 billion

Venture capital funding of artificial intelligence (AI) companies soared 72 percent last year, hitting a record $9.3 billion, according to a new report from PwC and CB Insights. The surge comes after three years of steadily increasing investment, with the average annual increase from 2015 to 2017 at 28 percent. It’s a sector that has drawn the attention of our panel of Angel and Venture Capitalists who share their thoughts on the past year and 2019 in our annual “Outlook Series” that starts on Monday.
